Statement Regarding Staley & Associates

Over the last few days, it has been brought to my attention that I am listed as an “Associate” on the Staley & Associates website, which is operated by four-time former publisher Shane Ryan Staley. I am not sure why I am listed as an Associate. This was done without my involvement, permission, or knowledge. I suspect, having glanced at the list along with some other folks who were surprised to find themselves listed there, that it is simply an accounting of every author and artist with whom he has worked with in the past. But the website doesn’t make that clear.

Let me state for the record that I am not associated in any way with any new publishing venture that involves Shane Ryan Staley. While I worked with him in the past, that was well over a decade ago. While I was personally never treated unfairly by him, I would seem to be in the minority in that regard. Dozens of authors and artists allege unfair treatment, non-payment of royalties, and more, as do dozens his former customers and even his biographer, H Michael Casper. To the best of my knowledge, their concerns have not been addressed or resolved.

Therefore, I cannot in good conscience recommend that any author, artist, or reviewer work with him, and I categorically state that my listing as an Associate on his website is not endorsed by me.
